Accidents at work
The Health and Safety Executive estimate that individual employees lose around five hundred and fifty eight million pounds a year in reduced income and additional expenditure as a result of accidents at work. However, employers are required by law to provide a safe environment in which to work. This includes making sure that staff are aware of and can manage any potential hazards or danger. If employers do not do so, they may be liable to compensate employees who suffer an injury in the workplace.
Injuries caused by animals
If you are injured by an animal, the owner or keeper of the animal may be held responsible, and it is possible that you can claim for compensation. Tell us about your injury - we may be able to help.
Defective products
There are many examples of injuries sustained as a result of using a defective product. For example, you may have been injured by a defective appliance or piece of equipment, or your child might have been harmed by a defective toy. If you have been injured as a result of using a defective product, you may be entitled to compensation from the supplier or manufacturer of that product.
Aviation and Maritime
When travelling by boat or aeroplane, you have rights as a passenger. Injuries can be sustained when embarking or disembarking on you journey, or during the journey. If so, you may have a claim against the tour operator, airline or boat owner.
Birth injury
Birth injuries can occur for a variety of reasons, sometimes including natural causes. The types of injury that might be cause for compensation include broken bones, bleeding or brain damage as a result of oxygen, and may have occurred during or just after the birth. Contact us experts to explain your concerns in total confidence.
Criminal injuries
Compensation for criminal injuries are made by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, which is a scheme funded by Government. There are a number of important conditions however if your claim is to be legitimate. For example, compensation claims may be reduced or refused altogether, if you have not reported the crime, or failed to co-operate with the police. If you were not the innocent victim or if you have a criminal record, your claim may also be rejected.
Education
Claims related to education are often the result of negligent actins by a teacher or other education professional. You must be able to show in these cases that a service such as tuition or supervision has not been provided to a ‘reasonable standard’ and that this has caused you to suffer measurable harm.
Fatal accidents
Losing a loved one in an accident is everybody’s worst nightmare. Whilst making a claim for compensation will never be the first concern in this case, it is the case that it may be possible to claim compensation if the deceased person was not at fault. The type of claim may vary but a surviving spouse or family member may be able to claim for ‘bereavement damages’, whilst other dependants may have a claim for financial losses.
Head injury
Head or brain injuries can be the result of a variety of incidents, including road traffic accidents, criminal assault, and sporting accidents. It the injury sustained was caused by a third party, it may be possible to claim compensation.
Industrial disease
Industrial diseases and illnesses include asbestos-related diseases, breathing and respiratory problems, industrial deafness and skin conditions. Compensation may be paid awarded where it can be proved that employers exposed workers to conditions that contributed to their ill-health.
Professional negligence
Professional negligence occurs where you have instructed a solicitor to act for you after an accident and they have failed to pursue your case properly, thus preventing you from continuing with your claim. You may have a case against your solicitor for denying you the chance of being compensated if the solicitor has acted negligently or given you negligent advice.
Actions against the Police
A variety of claims can be made against the Police, for example, for damages for assault by a police officer, wrongful arrest, unlawful detention and malicious prosecution. These complaints may result in officers being disciplined.
Road traffic accidents
Road Accident Claims are the most common type of personal injury claim, and can very often be the cause of serious pain or injury. If you have suffered an accident which was the fault of another person, it may be possible to be compensated for any injuries sustained, the damage to the vehicle or financial losses.
Physical abuse
Along with the obvious physical injuries, abuse of this type can cause real and occasionally permanent psychological damage. Compensation may be payable, even when the abuse took place some time ago. This is a particularly sensitive area so rest assured that if you decide to contact us with regard to your claim, it will be treated in absolute confidence.
Slips, trips and falls
Slips, trips and falls are a relatively common occurrence, often happening as a result of a wet floor, or defective equipment in a workplace, or out and about a trip can often happen on an uneven pavement. The ‘occupier’ of land has a duty to ensure your safety in a public place, and as a result is responsible for accidents if they have been negligent.
Spinal injuries
Spinal injuries can result in a dramatic loss of mobility, and the ability to work is seriously affected. Compensation is often a vital means to rebuild a person’s life and regain independence.
Sports-related injury
It is not only those who organise or supervise sporting activities who are charged with a duty to act with reasonable care to other participants, but also those who take part. You may have a claim for negligence if you are injured as a result of another participant’s deliberate action, because there was inadequate instruction or supervision, or insufficient attention to safety or defective equipment.
