You can claim asylum only when already in the UK and unable to go back to your home country due to fear of persecution. The fear or persecution could be due to your race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group. However, you must also be able to show that you cannot obtain protection in your home country and that relocation to another part of your home country is not possible.
